Opportunity for students to go Stateside

ANTRIM and Newtownabbey Borough Council is delighted to announce that applications are now open for the Sister Cities Student Exchange Programme 2020.

Now in its twentieth year, this once in a lifetime opportunity will offer two students from the Borough, the chance to experience our Sister City, Gilbert in Arizona, during July and August 2020.

The successful students will spend three weeks experiencing the American way of life, staying with a host family and bringing back a wealth of fascinating stories about their stay abroad and their experience of a different country, its culture and people.

At the end of the three weeks, the students will return along with their matched Gilbert exchange partner and home host them for three weeks.

During their stay in Antrim and Newtownabbey, the Gilbert students will have a chance to experience a new culture and make lifelong friends, learning about their hosts local cultures and customs in ways not available to a casual visitor.

All travel expenses for the programme will be covered by Council, however students are expected to provide their own passports and spending money.

Applications must be submitted no later than 4pm on Monday 16 December.

If you or someone you know would like to take part in this exciting opportunity, visit antrimandnewtownabbey.gov.uk/studentexchangeprogramme for more information, eligibility criteria and how to apply.

All applicants will be required to attend an interview together with their parents/guardians conducted by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council.

To be eligible for the programme students must be in Year 13 (or equivalent) and reside in the Borough of Antrim and Newtownabbey.
