Police continue investigation into ‘stabbing’ incident in Ballymena

POLICE investigations are continuing tonight at the Galgorm Road in Ballymena after a reported stabbing incident.

The PSNI had sealed off the Galgorm Road. Forensics officers were at the scene.

A number of ambulances were earlier seen in the area near the Travellers’ Rest hostel.

It is understood there was a stabbing incident before 3.30pm on Saturday.

A Northern Ireland Ambulance Service spokesperson told ‘Ballymena Daily’: “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 15:28 on Saturday 21 March 2020 following reports of a stabbing incident in the Galgorm Road area of Ballymena.

“NIAS despatched 3 Emergency crews and 2 Doctors to the scene.

“One patient was taken by ambulance to Antrim Area Hospital.”

The road was cordoned off and pedestrians were unable leave Ballymena Train and Bus Station via Galgorm Road.

So far police have only said: “The Galgorm Road in Ballymena has been closed between Waveney Road and Leighinmohr Avenue as part of an ongoing police investigation. Diversions are in place and members of the public are asked to avoid the area and seek an alternative route for their journey if possible.”
