Police are investigating criminal damage to the play park at Wakehurst Playing fields in Ballymena.
A PSNI spokesperson said on social media: “The rubber mats have been destroyed as a result. This is expected to cost the local council hundreds of pounds to repair.
“All too often our community play parks are destroyed and families are no longer able to use them due to the damage. Please help us to identify those involved.”
Independent councillor Rodney Quigley said: “Unbelievable how anyone could do this to a children’s play park…vandals have once again struck at the play park at Wakehurst football pitches.
“I reported a similar incident last week and the Council promptly fixed it but this is a lot worse.
“People who do this kind of thing have no place in society and have no respect for anyone.
“I would ask that if anyone knows who was responsible for this despicable act that they contact the PSNI or send me a PM…this was done in broad daylight and is totally unacceptable.”
