Police seize ‘deactivated starter pistol’ in Ballymena

POLICE have revealed a suspicious object found in the Ballykeel area of Ballymena was a “deactivated starter pistol”.

A PSNI spokesperson said on Friday night: “Police and ATO examined a suspicious object reported in the Orkney Drive area of Ballymena this afternoon (Friday 20 September). The object, a deactivated starter pistol, has been taken away for further examination.

“Orkney Drive has now reopened.”

Inspector Johnny Graham said: “I would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding during the course of this policing operation.

“I am appealing to anyone with information to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 1092 of 20/09/19.

“Alternatively, information can be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
