THERE has been an increase in the number of Scottish registered boats visiting marinas on the Antrim coast.
A Mid & East Antrim Borough Council report says there were 98 Scottish boats berthing in Glenarm in 2018 and the figure rose to 124 last year.
At Carrickfergus marina the number of Scottish boats in 2018 was 80 and it rose to 86 in 2019.
Meanwhile, a report prepared for councillors is recommending that they again sign up to the Malin Waters marketing consortium, managed by Donegal County Council which covers the ‘shared maritime waters of north west Ireland, the maritime counties of Northern Ireland and the western coast of Scotland’.
Groups like Whitehead Rowing Club have received grants from Malin Waters.
The membership fee for 2020 is 4,500 Euro.
The Council report says it is suggested that marketing activity carried out by the Malin Waters initiative has helped propel a rise in Scottish boats coming to County Antrim.
