Man who had been subject of arrest warrant turns up at Ballymena Court ‘by arrangement’

Ballymena Court

A MAN for whom an arrest warrant had recently been issued after he failed to turn up at Ballymena Magistrates Court has now been before the District Judge.

Ioan Gavris (45), with an address listed as Galgorm Road in Ballymena, is charged with driving with excess alcohol in his breath at Parkway in Ballymena.

He is accused in relation to April 26 this year.

A prosecutor previously said the defendant allegedly had an alcohol in breath reading of 67 – the legal limit is 35.

At an earlier court a defence solicitor said she thought the defendant may not be in Northern Ireland.

At Ballymena Court last Thursday, where he had the assistance of a Romanian interpreter, the defendant appeared “by arrangement” to answer the warrant.

A police officer had no objection to bail and the defendant was given bail on the sum of £500.

The case was adjourned to December 3.
