Royal Irish Regiment ‘Laying of Colours’ ceremony and parade to be held in Ballymena

THE Royal Irish Regiment is due to hold a ‘Laying of Colours’ ceremony and parade in Ballymena this summer.

Mid & East Antrim Borough Council has secured the laying of the retired colours of the 1st Battalion of the Regiment in Ballymena.

A church ceremony is to take place and the Regiment will then exercise their right as Freemen of the Borough to parade the town.

An event is set to be held at a Council venue.

Cllr Keith Turner (Ulster Unionist) said it would be a “proud day” for the Borough.

A separate ceremony will be organised for the presentation of St Patrick’s Barracks Gates from the Council to the Ballymena Branch of the Royal British Legion.
