Former Northern Regional College art student, Sasha McCart from Rasharkin, has been named Student Union Class Representative of the Year for the College’s Ballymena campus at its recent Student Awards.

Sasha, who has just completed a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Northern Regional College, has secured a scholarship to study Fine Art at the University of Central Lancashire.

After doing her GCSEs at St Paul’s College in Kilrea, Sasha enrolled on the Level 3 Diploma in Fashion and Design at Northern Regional College – a course which is the equivalent of three A levels.

With this under her belt, she decided to stay on at the College to complete a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design to gain a ‘really strong grounding’ in the subject before going on to university.

Sasha said: “The Foundation Diploma is an ideal stepping stone for going on to university to study Art and I would really recommend it.”

The Foundation Diploma in Art and Design (Level 3/4) is a one-year full-time course, the primary aim of which is to educate students to make informed decisions which enable them to progress to an appropriate Higher Education course in art and design.
