Shelves are stripped bare of hand sanitizer in Ballymena and gels rationed amidst coronavirus outbreak

Ballymena town centre shops have seen a surge in sales of sanitizer gels.

ANTI-bacterial hand gel has been selling out at shops in Ballymena on Friday due to fears surrounding coronavirus.

One outlet was said to be restricting sales of the product to two per person.

In other stores shelves quickly emptied and products like anti-bacterial hand wipes were also selling fast.

The developments happened the day after the first confirmed case of coronavirus in Northern Ireland.

One shopper told ‘Ballymena Daily’: “I was in several stores today and they were all reporting a run on such products but most said they were expecting to get more product in.”
