AN animal welfare investigation has been launched after a shock picture emerged of a pup which had been wandering in Ballymena.
The dog is now in the care of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council and is receiving “intensive veterinary attention for its skin condition”.
A member of the public reported the male French Bulldog, believed to be around 18 weeks old, as being a “stray” in the Ballykeel area of Ballymena.
A Council spokesperson confirmed to ‘Ballymena Daily’ they have launched an investigation “under the Welfare of Animals Act”.
The spokesperson added: “The dog is in Council care and receiving intensive veterinary attention for its skin condition”.
The Council was inundated with offers from the public to care for the pup but the spokesperson said: “We are not looking for re-homing options at this stage due to ongoing veterinary care that this dog needs”.
