Sinn Féin’s Ian Friary has welcomed additional safety measures for the Largy Road but said more needs to be done to address the dangers.

His comments come after he and his party’s North Antrim MLA Philip McGuigan met the Roads Service to discuss the issue.

Ian Friary, who is standing in the Bannside area in the forthcoming Mid & East Antrim Borough Council election, said:

“Everyone is well aware that the Largy Road can be a dangerous road and unfortunately a number of recent accidents have again proved that point.

“I met with the Roads Service along with Philip McGuigan MLA and we have impressed upon them the need for action. We are delighted to have got agreement for some additional signage and road markings at particular.

“This will certainly help but we believe more is required to reduce the risks of accidents.

“Obviously speed is a key factor and we have also spoken to the PSNI about this issue. I would caution all who use this road to drive carefully at all times.”
