PLAY parks in the Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council area and parks including Antrim Castle Gardens have been closed on Saturday as a result of Storm Ciara.

The wind was being blamed for damaging this street light.

As the winds whipped up on Saturday afternoon, the Department of Agriculture was also advising the public not to visit forests, country parks and nature reserves either on foot or in vehicles.

The PSNI Antrim Facebook page said this afternoon: ‘The official advice is to stay indoors if you can and only travel if necessary. We will still be maintaining a vigil over the district.

‘With that in mind please be careful tonight. There is a yellow warning for strong winds and heavy rain in place.

‘If you have to travel make sure you take extra precautions on the road. Make sure your lights, wipers, tyres, etc are all in good condition and working. Make sure your phone is fully charged.
Tell someone your journey and planned times.’

Meanwhile, a street light at Albert Place in Ballymena appeared to be twisted out of shape by the wind.
