“Youths were seen in the area putting items on a fire near to the changing rooms which has resulted in a facility for the whole community being ruined.
“Police are appealing for witnesses of any youths in the area around this time to come forward.
“If you do have information for us call 101 and quote reference CCS1765 of 27/10/19
“This facility is used by a lot of different people and has needlessly been damaged.”
A Mid & East Antrim Borough Council spokesperson told ‘Ballymena Daily’: “It is extremely disappointing that a community facility has been attacked.
“This will cause disruption to existing users and diversion of ratepayers’ money to undertake repairs.
“We would encourage anyone with any information on this incident at Dunfane Playing Fields to contact the PSNI on 101.”
One of the teams affected by the damage is Michelin FC and there have been calls for their former pitch at Woodside Road to be re-opened for them to move back there following the fire.
