Sunday’s update: 36 new coronavirus cases in Mid & East Antrim as 8 covid-related deaths are reported in Northern Ireland

THERE were 36 new coronavirus cases in Mid & East Antrim and 8 covid-related deaths were reported in Northern Ireland in the last day.

There were 896 new covid cases in the last 24 hours across Northern Ireland.

There were 8 covid-linked deaths registered in Northern Ireland in the last day – two each in Mid Ulster, Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon and Lisburn & Castlereagh; one in Antrim & Newtownabbey and one in Derry City & Strabane.

The total number of cases in the Mid & East Antrim district since the start of the pandemic is now 1,541.

The number of covid cases across Northern Ireland since the pandemic started is 34,105.

Statistics now show a weekly breakdown of new cases by postcode areas – for example the BT42 and BT43 areas which take in the Ballymena district had 67 and 38 respectively in the last week.

The number of covid-related deaths across Northern Ireland since the pandemic began is now 653, according to the Department of Health.

According to Department of Health figures there have been 47 covid-linked deaths in Mid & East Antrim.

Health Minister Robin Swann has urged people across Northern Ireland to “dig in and get through winter together”.

The Minister said: “I know the people of Northern Ireland will join with me in expressing my deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who have passed away.

“Unfortunately, the predictions that were made about the increase in cases and the consequences this will bring are coming true,” he said last week.

There were 6 covid-linked deaths registered in Northern Ireland in the last day – three in Derry City & Strabane and one each in Newry, Mourne & Down and Fermanagh & Omagh. The location of one of the deaths was listed in the statistics as ‘not known’.

The total number of cases in the Mid & East Antrim district since the start of the pandemic is now 1,505.

The number of covid cases across Northern Ireland since the pandemic started is 33,209.
