ONE of the first funeral services be held inside a church in the Down & Connor Diocese since the coronavirus lockdown came into place in March has taken place in Ballymena.

Restrictions have now been eased by the Diocese of Down & Connor to allow ten people into churches for Requiem Mass.

Requiem Mass was held for Mr Senan Cushenan at All Saints in Ballymena on Friday morning.

As has been happening in recent times the Mass was broadcast on the church’s website.

During the broadcast, Parish Priest, Monsignor Paddy Delargy, said: “It is a very special Mass. It is the first time we have been gathered as a community.”

He said there were still quite a number of restrictions in place but made reference to ten mourners being allowed to be present.
