Thursday’s update: 18 new covid cases in Mid & East Antrim as Northern Ireland registers its second highest daily total of 923

THERE were 18 new covid cases in Mid & East Antrim as Northern Ireland registered its second highest daily total with 923 cases.

The Mid & East Antrim area continues to record the lowest daily number of new covid cases in Northern Ireland.

However, the latest daily figure of 18 locally was up from 11 in the district the previous day.

The previous day in Northern Ireland there had been 828 cases.

The overall number of cases in Northern Ireland is now 17,110.

There was one covid-related death reported in the latest information released by the Department of Health. It was in the Derry City & Strabane council area.

There have been 958 cases in Mid & East Antrim out of 24,757 tests since the pandemic started.

The 18 new cases locally came from 178 tests.

The number of new cases in each district was as follows:

Ards & North Down – 37

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon – 56

Belfast – 202

Causeway Coast & Glens – 42

Derry City & Strabane – 235

Fermanagh & Omagh – 36

Lisburn & Castlereagh – 46

Mid & East Antrim – 18

Mid Ulster – 100

Newry, Mourne & Down – 98

‘Not known’ – 9

The number of people who have died across Northern Ireland since the pandemic began, according to the Department of Health, is 587.

The latest fatality was a woman aged over 80 who died in a hospital in the Derry City and Strabane area.
