Tributes paid to former Ballymena mayor John McAuley

Tributes have been paid following the death of former Mayor of Ballymena, John McAuley.

Mr McAuley, served as DUP Mayor during 1977/78.

Current DUP councillor, Alderman Tommy Nicholl MBE, said Mr McAuley was a ‘gentleman who taught him a lot in his early days as a councillor’.

Ald Nicholl added: “I never had any hesitation going to John for advice. My thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time.”

A funeral notice read: ‘McAuley John 18th August 2019, peacefully at Antrim Area Hospital, late of 2 Larne Road, Ballymena. Dearly loved husband of the late Margaret, loving father of Jonathan, May, Stephen, Eunice, Ian and the late David, a dear father-in-law, grandfather and great grandfather.

Funeral service in Covenant Protestant Reformed Church, Clarence Street, Ballymena on Wednesday 21st inst. at 12 noon interment afterwards Ballee Cemetery.

Family flowers only please, donations in lieu, if desired, may be made payable to N.H.S.C.T. c/o James Henry Funeral Services 100 Broughshane Street, Ballymena BT43 6EE for the Renal Unit, Antrim Area Hospital.

Lovingly remembered by his sorrowing sons, daughters and family circle. Revelation 14:13 “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord”.’
