Tuesday’s update: 28 new coronavirus cases in Mid & East Antrim in last day as details emerge of 7 covid-linked deaths in Northern Ireland

THERE have been 28 new coronavirus cases in Mid & East Antrim in the last day as details emerged of 7 further covid-linked deaths in Northern Ireland.

Four of the deaths were in the Belfast area with the others in Antrim & Newtownabbey, Mid Ulster and Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon.

Four of the deaths happened in the last day and three happened earlier but have only now been included in the figures.

According to Department of Health figures there have now been 598 deaths linked to covid in Northern Ireland since the pandemic began.

46 of those deaths have been in the Mid & East Antrim Borough where a covid-related death has not been recorded in the statistics for several weeks.

The overall Northern Ireland case total since the pandemic began is now 21,898 after 863 new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.

The total number of cases in the Mid & East Antrim district since the start of the pandemic is now 1,069. The rise in the local borough was the lowest in Northern Ireland.

The 28 new cases in Mid & East Antrim came from 198 tests and the 1,069 figure is from 25,818 tests.
