THERE have been 6 coronavirus-related deaths reported in Northern Ireland in the last day as the number of cases since the pandemic began moved above 40,000.
The deaths were in Belfast; Derry City & Strabane; Lisburn & Castlereagh; Ards & North Down; Newry, Mourne & Down and Fermanagh & Omagh.
Of the 6 people who died 5 were aged 80 or over and 1 was aged between 60-79.
The number of covid-related deaths across Northern Ireland since the pandemic began is now 730, according to the Department of Health.
According to Department of Health figures there have been 48 covid-linked deaths in Mid & East Antrim.
There were 57 new coronavirus cases in Mid & East Antrim in the last day.
The total number of cases in the Mid & East Antrim district since the start of the pandemic is now 1,902.
There were 570 new covid cases in the last 24 hours across Northern Ireland.
The number of covid cases across Northern Ireland since the pandemic started is 40,179.
Statistics now show a weekly breakdown of new cases by postcode areas – for example the BT42 and BT43 areas which take in the Ballymena district had 96 and 37 respectively in the last week.
Health Minister Robin Swann has urged people across Northern Ireland to “dig in and get through winter together”.
The Minister said: “I know the people of Northern Ireland will join with me in expressing my deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who have passed away.”
