POLICE have carried out a special patrol in Ballymena on the hunt for vehicles without insurance, tax and MOT following concerns raised by the community.
The PSNI Ballymena Facebook page said on Wednesday: ‘Following concerns raised by local residents Police patrolled the Ballymena area yesterday in search of uninsured vehicles, untaxed vehicles and vehicles without a current MOT.
‘Two vehicles were seized for no insurance, three vehicles were found to have no MOT, and one driver was reported for other offences.
‘I feel that it is only fair to those of us that pay to drive legally on our roads, that Police robustly implement powers of seizure afforded to them to minimise the risk posed to other road users by all uninsured vehicles.
‘Police will continue to robustly utilise these powers to keep our road users safe and would like to thank all residents for their continued support.
‘I would also like to remind people that only Police have the lawful right to stop vehicles on a road or public place. Do not attempt to stop a vehicle yourself as you may leave yourself liable to face prosecution.’
