A WOMAN appears to have taken exception to a public Christmas Tree being lit up “too early” in the Harryville area of Ballymena.

Earlier on Thursday evening there were cheers from large crowds as the switch was flicked to light up the whole town centre ahead of December 25.

However, it seems not everyone was happy.

In scenes captured in an online video which was viewed over 40,000 times in a just a few hours on Thursday night a woman seems to grapple with the Christmas lights on a tree at Salisbury Square in Harryville.

She can be heard to say it was “too early” for the lights to be on, especially before December 1.

The Christmas Tree lights across Ballymena town centre were officially switched on at a ceremony just a number of hours earlier on Thursday.

There were many positive comments about the decorations at The Braid building however it was the scenes at Harryville which had gone viral on the internet.

A Mid & East Antrim Borough Council spokesperson told ‘Ballymena Daily’ on Friday: “We are aware of a video appearing on social media in recent days. Enquiries are ongoing.”

  • She’s right about the lights being on too early. In a couple of years they’ll probably be switching them on while everyone is on their summer holidays.
