Videos: Coronavirus lockdown means air ambulance is able to land in what normally would have been a busy Ballymena car park

THE coronavirus lockdown meant an air ambulance was able to land in what is normally one of Ballymena’s busiest car parks.

There were dramatic scenes when the helicopter put down in the Broughshane Street carpark behind Cameron’s on Tuesday morning.

In normal times such a landing would probably not have been possible as the car park is usually pretty much full.

Even around 8am – the time of today’s incident – it is unlikely there would have been sufficient safe space for the helicopter to land.

This is how busy the car park normally is as seen on Google Maps.

But with the lockdown still in place there were wide open tarmac spaces for the helicopter to land in the car park.

Eugene Diamond and Mathew Mitchell were on hand to capture video images of the helicopter coming in to land, sitting on the ground and taking off.
