A COVID-related death has occurred in Mid & East Antrim as a record new daily number of cases across Northern Ireland was announced on Wednesday.
It was the first covid-linked death in the district for several weeks and brings the number of people who have died in the borough in similar circumstances since the pandemic began to 47.
It was one of four covid-related deaths reported in Northern Ireland in the last day. Two of the deaths occurred in the last 24 hours and the other two were earlier but are only now included in the statistics by the Department of Health.
The other deaths were in the three districts of Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon; Newry, Mourne & Down and Fermanagh & Omagh.
The number of covid-related deaths across Northern Ireland since the pandemic began is now 602, according to the Department of Health.
There has also been a record daily number of new coronavirus cases announced in Northern Ireland – 1,217 – which means the total number of cases is now 23,115.
There have been 32 new coronavirus cases in Mid & East Antrim in the last day. Although the number of cases in the borough is increasing it remains the lowest daily number in Northern Ireland.
The total number of cases in the Mid & East Antrim district since the start of the pandemic is now 1,101.
The 32 new cases in Mid & East Antrim came from 249 tests and the 1,101 figure is from 26,067 tests.
