Well-respected former Ballymena pub owner John Devlin has passed away

John Devlin.

Well-respected former Ballymena publican John Devlin has passed away.

For years John ran the Cosy Corner bar and he had a front row seat to view changes in the town centre over the decades.

Close to the former Fairhill Market many visitors to the market used to either call in with John for a pint at the Cosy Corner or nip into Daisy May’s cafe.

When the market closed the Cosy Corner pub was then on the doorstep of the Fairhill Shopping Centre.

The Cosy Corner has been full of great characters over the years and none more so than John whose friendly presence behind the bar will be remembered by many.

John, who retired several years ago, died peacefully at hospital on Monday.

His remains are reposing in O’Donnell’s Funeral Home, 41-43 Mount Street, Ballymena.

A family notice said visitors are welcome to call and pay their respects on Wednesday from 4pm until 5.45pm whereby his remains will then be removed to All Saints Church, Ballymena.

Requiem Mass is on Thursday at 10am followed by burial in Ballymena Cemetery at Cushendall Road.
