Woman crashed car into electricity pole after smoking cannabis, Ballymena Court hears

A WOMAN who crashed a car into an electricity pole after smoking cannabis has been banned from driving for a year and fined £200.

Claudia McKernan (22), a university student of Cennick Road in Gracehill, came to police attention at Whitesides Road near Ballymena on April 14 this year.

At Ballymena Magistrates Court she pleaded guilty to driving whilst unfit.

The court heard the defendant, who had no previous record, had been working as a part-time receptionist  and is also a final year psychology student at Queen’s University.

A defence barrister said the defendant had “smoked some cannabis” late in the evening the night before and that had still affected her when she had driven.
