NORTH Antrim MLA Mervyn Storey – one of the the DUP’s representatives on the Policing Board – has welcomed Simon Byrne on his first day in office as Chief Constable of the PSNI.
Commenting after attending Mr Byrne’s attestation ceremony on Monday afternoon, Mr Storey, who is also Chair of the Board’s Performance Committee, said: “We congratulate Mr Byrne on his appointment and welcome him on this his first day in office.
“The DUP looks forward to working closely and proactively with the new Chief Constable to tackle traditional forms of crime as well as emerging and harmful risks to our society. The public deserve a visible, proactive and effective police force.
“Mr Byrne brings to the job a wealth of experience. We wish him well as he seeks to deliver his vision for policing in Northern Ireland.”
