Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a sudden death after a man was found on a road side.

The man was found on the Straid Road near Bushmills on Saturday.

Police initially said the road was closed on Saturday following a “serious one vehicle road traffic collision”.

In an update on Sunday a PSNI spokesperson said: “Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a man whose body was found on the roadside on the Straid Road in Bushmills on Saturday.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious, pending the outcome of a post mortem.”

A Northern Ireland Ambulance Service spokesperson said they were called to the scene of an incident involving a cyclist at 12.10pm on Saturday.

“NIAS dispatched a rapid response paramedic and an emergency crew to the scene and also tasked the Charity Air Ambulance to the incident,” they said.

“No one was taken from the scene.”
