A police manhunt continues today for a convicted murderer, whose distinguishing features include the word ‘Love’ tattooed on the fingers of his right hand.

Thomas McCabe (55), who has links to the Newtownabbey, Newry and Dublin areas, is unlawfully at large from prison.

He is originally from Northern Ireland and was sentenced to life for murder in England in 1990 after beating to death the 18-year-old cousin of his then girlfriend.

The trial judge described it as a “sudden unpremeditated attack in a moment of drunken and unreasoned jealousy upon a complete stranger”.

McCabe was later transferred to Northern Ireland to serve out his sentence.

He was released on licence, but it was revoked after a number of breaches.

PSNI Detective Constable William Arnott said on Friday: “He is described as around 5ft 8ins tall, of medium build with short grey coloured hair.

“We believe he has connections to Newry, Newtownabbey, and Dublin.”

“I would appeal to anyone who has seen Thomas McCabe, or who knows of his whereabouts to contact us on 101.
