PSNI warn of scammers after person pretending to be police officer phoned woman (82) saying there was a warrant for her arrest

THE PSNI have spoken of an apparent scam in which a person pretending to be a police officer phoned an 82-year-old woman in the Bushmills area saying there was a warrant for her arrest.

The PSNI North Coast Facebook page said on Tuesday night: ‘Folks there has been a telephone scam reported yesterday in the Bushmills area whereby a scammer called an 82 yr old lady pretending to be a Police Officer and left her a voicemail informing her that there was an arrest warrant out in her name.

‘They then instructed the lady to call a certain telephone number back then press 3 on their handset to sort the matter out.

‘Thankfully, the victim did not ring the number back as no doubt the scammer would have been looking their bank details to sort out the alleged arrest warrant.

‘Please remember not to give out your bank account details etc over the phone and report any suspicious activity to Police.’
