Ballymena burglar detected after movement activated a video recording

Ballymena Court

A court has heard a video recording was activated by movement at a dwelling in Ballymena when the householder was out.

It led to the detection of Shaun William Leitch (32), of Ballyclug Mews, Ballymena, who had struck at a neighbouring property on April 26 this year.

A camera and X-Box were stolen.

The court heard a male and female had entered the property.

When arrested Leitch assaulted a custody detention officer at a police station.

Leitch appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court via video link from Maghaberry Prison on Thursday and pleaded guilty to the charges.

He is currently a serving prisoner with a release date at the start of July.

He had previously been jailed for four four months for assault and being disorderly at Antrim Area Hospital.

The current case was adjourned to June 6.
