Ballymena Court hears driver was narrowly over limit after ‘taking chance’ to go to shop

Ballymena Court.

A DEFENCE barrister said a man had been drinking at home and “took a chance” to drive to a shop.

However, Derry Martin Weir (38), of Browndod Road, Larne, was spoken to by police at the town’s Harbour Highway on September 26 this year.

At Ballymena Magistrates Court on December 19 the defendant pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol in blood; and using an Audi A4 without insurance and no MOT.

The defendant had an alcohol in blood reading of 87 – narrowly over the legal limit of 80.

He was banned from driving for a year and fined £400.
