A MAN who punched and smashed a TV whilst having an argument during the Christmas period has repaid £150 for the damage, Ballymena Magistrates Court heard.
David O’Brien (32), of Dunvale, Ballymena, was fined £200 after pleading guilty to charges of causing criminal damage to a TV and then subsequently being disorderly in a public place – Thornbrooke in Ahoghill.
A prosecutor said police received a report of a domestic incident on December 28 last year and a woman said that after a verbal argument the defendant punched a TV and smashed it.
The defendant was shouting and swearing outside when arrested.
A defence solicitor said the defendant, who had a previous record, had been in a relationship with the woman and they are now “estranged”.
The lawyer said it was an “isolated incident” in which the defendant “lost his temper”.
District Judge Nigel Broderick said he was going to treat the incident as a “blip” but he told the defendant he did not wish to see him coming back to court.
