Ballymena Court hears man put knife to his wrist and then told his mum: ‘Actually, I will kill you’

Ballymena Court

A COURT heard a man pulled a small knife out of a kitchen drawer and put it to his wrist before turning to his mother and saying: “Actually, I will kill you”.

Darnell McCrory (26), of Wilson Crescent, Ballymena, was accompanied by his mother when he appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court where he admitted a charge of common assault.

A prosecutor said police received a report from the complainant that her son had returned home from a night out and and was heavily intoxicated.

She called him downstairs and the defendant then took a knife out of kitchen drawer and put it to his wrist before saying he would kill his mother.

He then snatched a phone out of her hand.

The defendant told police he had an argument with his mother and his only intention was to “harm himself”.

Defence solicitor Andrew Kinney said the defendant’s mum was at court and she was trying to do all she can to assist her son in getting help for mental health issues.

The defendant was given a two year conditional discharge.
