Ballymena man is convicted of causing grievous bodily harm

A MAN has been convicted of unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm upon a male.

David Alexander Lynch (26), of Barra Drive, Ballymena, committed an offence on June 17, 2018.

The case was mentioned at Antrim Magistrates Court on Christmas Eve.

The defendant had contested the charge.

The full facts of the case were not outlined to the court on Christmas Eve.

A defence lawyer said that thankfully the injured party had “travelled a long way down the road to recovery”.

Adjourning sentencing until late January for a pre-sentence report to be prepared, District Judge Nigel Broderick said it had been a “frightening and serious injury”.

He said very often the courts focus on physical injuries but he was also concerned about “emotional trauma” in the case.
