A BANNED driver who had cannabis in his possession when police stopped him attempted to run off and struggled briefly when caught.
The offences came to light in the Moat Road area of Ballymena in May this year.
Thomas Alexander McPeake (24), of Moat Road, had a “joint” on him and nine grammes of cannabis was also found in the car – a Volkswagen Golf.
Defence solicitor David McIlrath told Ballymena Magistrates Court the defendant had taken to the road in connection with the vehicle being advertised for sale.
Deputy District Judge Trevor Browne said McPeake had a “really poor attitude” and “doesn’t learn his lesson”.
He said there was a “public safety element” in the case as the defendant “just seems to think he can go on and misbehave without any consequences”.
McPeake was given a four months prison term, suspended for two years; banned from driving for two years and fined.
