The hospital site in Ballymena.

A teenager who admitted burglary with intent to do damage at Beech Lodge at the Braid Valley Hospital site in Ballymena has been ordered to do 120 hours of unpaid work.

Martin Kinney (18), with an address listed at Grangeleigh Avenue in Ballymena, committed the offence on January 2, 2018 – the day after his 17th birthday.

He appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court.

A prosecutor said an office was ransacked and that during an interview the defendant said he was there with a number of others.

Defence solicitor Stewart Ballentine said the defendant had “severed” links with a group he had been associating with.

District Judge Nigel Broderick said burglary was a serious matter but he said the defendant had been very young and there had been “negative influences”.
