A woman caught drink driving near her home claimed she was only behind the wheel playing a “joke” on her partner to make him think his car had been stolen.
Iveta Bajanova (35), of Clonavon Terrace in Ballymena, was detected a short distance away at Waveney Road on May 15 this year, Ballymena Magistrates Court heard.
The defendant had an alcohol in breath reading of 70 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 35mcgs.
She was also uninsured and for the Renault Modus and also pleaded guilty to a driving licence offence.
A prosecutor said police received a report of a woman driving a vehicle and when they spoke to her admitted the offences.
Defence solicitor Stewart Ballentine said: “This was meant to be a joke against her partner”.
The lawyer said that after a “dispute” with her partner “in a moment of madness the defendant decided to drive the car around the corner so he would think the car was stolen”.
Bajanova, who is originally from the Czech Republic, was banned from driving for a year and fined £375.
