Driver became suspicious when collision motorist said he didn’t want insurance firms involved

Ballymena Court

ANOTHER driver became suspicious when a man involved in a collision at a roundabout in Ballymena offered to pay for damage and said he didn’t want insurance companies involved.

It then emerged that Hugh McClean Gilchrist (70), of Raceview Terrace, Broughshane, was an unaccompanied L driver and uninsured.

At Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday he also admitted driving without due care and attention in relation to May 15 last year.

A defence solicitor said the defendant had been disqualified from driving around twenty years ago and had never re-sat his test.

The defence lawyer said the incident last May had been a “minor collision” and the defendant wished to apologise.

The court heard the other driver had now been “fully compensated”.

The defendant was banned from driving for a month and fined £400.
