Drug driver crashed vehicle into field, Ballymena Court is told

Ballymena Court

A DRIVER with drugs in his system who crashed into a field near Broughshane has been banned from getting behind the wheel for 16 months and fined.

Tony McNally (21), with an address listed as New Street in Randalstown, damaged a fence during the incident at Carnlough Road on June 16 last year.

At Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday he pleaded guilty to driving whilst unfit and having a defective tyre on his vehicle.

The court heard that when the emergency services arrived a female was “unresponsive” in the passenger seat.

When interviewed by police the defendant had “little recollection” of what happened.

A defence solicitor said McNally had been “abusing substances” and some drugs remained in his system which had affected his ability to drive.
