A DRUNK man who shouted and swore before kicking a police officer on the leg has been given a four months prison term, suspended for two years.
Peter McLaughlin (44), with an address originally listed as Middlepark Road in Cushendall but now at Tully Crescent, Cushendall, committed offences on July 18 this year.
The defendant admitted charges of disorderly behaviour and assault on police.
The disorderly behaviour was at Riverside Close in Cushendall.
A prosecutor told the October 14 sitting of Coleraine Magistrates Court that on July 18 limb restraints had to be placed on the defendant who was also “threatening” and verbally abusive towards police.
Defence barrister Alan Stewart said the defendant had issues with “binge drinking” but since he had got into trouble he had severely cut down on his alcohol.
The court was told the defendant had “peers” who were not a positive influence on him in Cushendall and he was hopeful of getting an address elsewhere.
