Eight months jail term for man who stole £770 cash during break-in at monastery

A MAN has been given an eight months jail sentence for stealing £770 in cash during a burglary at the Our Lady of Bethlehem Abbey Monastery in Portglenone.

Gareth Hyndman (43), with an address at Coleraine Street in Kilrea, committed the offence on January 25 last year.

The case was mentioned at Ballymena Magistrates Court.

Bail was fixed for appeal and the defendant, who has over 190 convictions, was remanded in custody.
