Forensic tests being carried out on footwear in relation to burglary which left elderly couple ‘terrified’

FORENSIC tests regarding footwear are ongoing in relation to three men accused of a burglary which was said to have left an elderly couple, aged 84 and 79, “terrified in their own home” that the culprits could return.

Jewellery, watches and gift vouchers were taken during a burglary at a dwelling at Finvoy Road, Ballymoney, on July 22 this year.

Three men – Mikulas Dansco (45), his son Robert Grulyo (18) and Edward Nemet (27) – all of the same address at Fingal Street in Belfast – are charged with burglary and going equipped for burglary with latex gloves and a screwdriver.

During a previous court hearing a police officer said the elderly couple was left “terrified in their own home” that the burglars would return.

On Monday the men appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court via video link from prison where they have been on remand in relation to the charges.

A prosecutor said a previous timescale for the receipt of forensics had been October 30 but that may now be delayed as there is “work ongoing regarding footwear”.

The men have been further remanded in custody and the case adjourned to November 4.
