A FORMER Irish League footballer, who was caught speeding on the Frosses Road has been fined and had his licence endorsed with penalty points.
Mark Clarke, (30) of William Alexander Park, Belfast, appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court.
The defendant, who has played for Glentoran, Cliftonville and Carrick Rangers, pleaded guilty to a speeding charge.
The court heard that on January 12 this year police detected the defendant travelling at 91mph in a 520 BMW on the Frosses Road – 31 mph over the national speed limit.
A defence lawyer said Clarke had been driving his wife’s car at the time and “was not aware” how fast he was travelling.
District Judge Peter King said that there has been a number of similar offences on the Frosses Road.
He imposed a fine of £120, four penalty points and a £15 offender levy.
