‘Hate crime’ at Clarence Street in Ballymena

A court has heard a man was disorderly at Ballymena’s Clarence Street and damaged plants and plant pots in an alleged “hate crime”.

Richard Carlin (44), of Chichester Park East, committed offences on June 19.

He pleaded guilty to being disorderly and causing criminal damage.

Regarding the same date he denies assaulting a police officer.

The court heard the case involved an allegation of ‘hate crime’.

The full details have not yet been outlined in court.

The defendant appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court and the case was adjourned to August 8 to fix a date to contest the assault charge.
