Hospitality worker who punched woman in face six years ago has ‘put troubled past behind’

Ballymena Court.

A woman who went to help her partner who was being assaulted by a man was then punched in the face, Ballymena Magistrates Court was told.

Lucasz Wach (26), of Clarence Street in Ballymena, appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court on April 18 for sentencing on two assault charges and one charge of damaging the woman’s car which he kicked.

The court was told the incident happened in the Ballymena area in June 2013 but that subsequently the defendant had been extradited back to Poland to serve a prison sentence there in connection with a different matter.

When he returned to Northern Ireland in 2017 he was arrested under warrant.

A defence solicitor said the defendant, who works at Galgorm Resort & Spa, appeared to have now “put his troubled background behind him”.

Imposing a four months jail term, suspended for a year, District Judge Nigel Broderick said they were serious offences but he couldn’t ignore the fact they happened six years ago.
