Jail for Kells man who smashed window with hammer

Ballymena Court

A Kells man who smashed a window with a hammer has been jailed for six months.

Glen Fenton (22), of Maybin Park, admitted charges of possessing a hammer as an offensive weapon in a public place in Kells and criminal damage to a window.

The incident happened on January 10 this year.

Defence barrister Stephen Law told Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday that at the time of the offences the defendant was drinking and had been experimenting with drugs.

The lawyer said there had been a “simmering difficulty”.

Maybin appeared at court via video link from prison where he had spent recent months on remand.

He was also ordered to pay compensation of £100.
