Judge delivers ‘speed kills’ reminder after driver (20) was caught doing 78mph in 30mph zone

Ballymena Court

A JUDGE said speed kills as he banned a 20-year-old driver caught doing 78mph in a 30mph zone in the Ballymena area for two months along with a £300 fine.

Deputy District Judge Noel Dunlop was speaking at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday where James Daniel Robinson, of Hillmount Road, Cullybackey, admitted a charge of contravening a 30mph speed limit on August 6 last year.

He had been driving a Volkswagen Golf at Cullybackey Road around 4pm on the date in question.

A defence lawyer admitted it was a “difficult” case.

He accepted there “really is no excuse” for the speed.

The judge said “lives could be lost” by speeding, especially by young drivers.
