Judge tells mum: ‘Shoplifting is not the answer’

A MUM who shoplifted in Ballymena has been given a two months jail term suspended for a year.

Leanne McClintock (39), of Orkney Drive, Ballymena, took clothing worth £186.50 from ‘Next’; clothing worth £86.30 from Primark and jewellery and other accessories worth £69.80 from Claire’s Accessories.

The thefts happened on May 29 last year.

The defendant appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Defence solicitor Stewart Ballentine said the defendant, who is on benefits, wished to apologise.

District Judge Nigel Broderick told the defendant “shoplifting is not the answer”.
