A 28-year-old man caught driving whilst uninsured in Ballymena said he was unaware his policy had lapsed saying he had moved address and: “I don’t check emails”.
Samuel Robert Trevor McDowell, of Craigstown Road, Randalstown, was speaking at Ballymena Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to using a Seat Leon without insurance at Larne Street in Ballymena on May 18 this year.
The detection was made at a routine vehicle checkpoint.
The court heard the defendant lost his job in January and with no money in his bank account the policy lapsed.
At court he was given six penalty points and fined £200.
