Man appears at Ballymena Court accused of attempted sexual communication with a boy

Ballymena Court.

A MAN was in the dock at Ballymena Magistrates Court today accused of attempted sexual communication with a boy.

Jamie Davidson (22), whose address was given as Pottinger Street in Cullybackey, is alleged to have committed an offence on February 22, 2018.

The specifics of the charge that ‘being a person aged 18 or over, for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification, intentionally attempted to communicate with a male, a person under 16 years, the communication being sexual or intended to encourage the said male to make a communication that was sexual, and you did not reasonably believe the male was 16 years or over’.

The defendant also faces charges of possessing an indecent photograph of a child; possession of a prohibited image of a child prohibited by the Coroners and Justice Act and possession of an ‘extreme pornographic’ image.

Those three charges relate to July 6, 2018.

A police officer said he believed he could connect the defendant to the charges.

A prosecutor said the case file is currently with a senior prosecutor.

No further details were given to the court.

The defendant has yet to indicate pleas.

The defendant was released on £500 bail with conditions that he does not access dating sites and he is not to attempt to have contact with any child under the age of 16 unless approved by social services.

The case was adjourned to mid-February.
